Jessica Davis has been the Account Manager for Baker Perkins Inc. for a little less than 1 year now.
Kelly Allen, Membership Manager for BEMA had an opportunity to ask Jessica Davis a few questions about herself and the organization.
Q: Tell us about your company and the products/services you offer:
A: Baker Perkins is probably best known for our cookie equipment which has been around since the early 1900s. We also offer equipment solutions in dough handling, forming, cutting, and baking in the bread, biscuit, and cracker sectors as well as extruded food and pet food. Our service group guarantees lifetime support for all of our customers and our Innovation Centers in both Grand Rapids and the UK are used to help our customers develop new products and perform trials to improve their processes.
Q: What is something new or innovative your company has done recently?
A: Due to the current limitations placed on the cannabis industry, Baker Perkins at the onset of this sector’s exponential growth was agile and developed a “mini” line of our standard equipment offerings to cater to these customers that desire a fully automated and hygienic smaller scale solution. Our mini line includes cooking and depositing, rotary moulding, and wirecut equipment.
Q: What do you love most about the baking industry?
A: I really enjoy going into the grocery store and seeing things on the shelf that were made on Baker Perkins equipment. Knowing that we had a hand in feeding families through equipment that we supplied to bakers is very gratifying.
Q: How did you get started in the baking industry?
A: I grew up going with my dad on his sales calls to food manufacturing facilities and always enjoyed that experience and decided to follow in his footsteps with my career. When it came time for college, I pursued my degree in Grain Milling and then used that knowledge and background to transition into the baking industry.
Q: What drew you and your company to join BEMA?
A: It is a great way to meet and get to know both bakers and peers in the industry in a more relaxed setting that leads to building great relationships.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: Traveling, cooking, hiking, boating, and skiing (both water and snow!)
