09 Sep BEMA Board Spotlight: Brian LeComte
Brian LeComte, President and COO of Gold Medal Bakery
Company: Gold Medal Bakery
Q: What got you into the baking industry?
A: I had no choice (Family Business)…started working as soon as I could empty trash bins.
Q: Why do you love the business of baking?
A: Baked goods have a potential place in every meal occasion. This provides an unlimited market to hopefully delight customers. As a result, every day brings an opportunity to grow with our teams and partners. In addition, our fourth-generation family business allows us to pass on our legacy and tradition…
Q: Who do you consider a mentor in the industry? Who has made an impact on your career?
A: I have four: My uncle Jean LeComte introduced me to the financial side of the business; Carl Culotta (EVP @ GMB) helped me develop a passion for the business; John Paterakis pushed me to get more involved in the industry; and Cordia Harrington taught me the value of constantly raising the bar for the industry!!
Q: What goals do you have for your board membership tenure?
A: Continue to see the ABA and BEMA work closely to grow the baking industry, as a whole.
Q: What trend are you most excited about in the baking industry right now?
A: Artificial Intelligence is going to provide exciting opportunities for all aspects of our business.
Q: What was your favorite baked good as a kid, and now?
A: As a kid, my father would make grilled English muffins with butter….now, I’m a sucker for raisin toast with a cup of coffee!!
