Stephen Bastasch is the President of Lenexa Manufacturing. He leads a group that satisfies the slicing and packaging needs of mid and large-size bakeries worldwide through outstanding customer service, high-quality machines, and innovative designs.
Kelly Allen, Sr. Membership Manager for BEMA had an opportunity to ask Mr. Bastasch a few questions about himself and the organization.
Q: What is Lenexa Manufacturing most known for?
A: We’re the newest company that creates high-speed, automated slicing and bagging bakery equipment. However, we have family history in the industry that goes back fifty years. Our firm started in 2013 and offers design, manufacture, and service of new equipment, refurbishments, and spare parts for UBE-style equipment.
Q: Would you like to share something new or innovative that your company has done recently?
A: We have a patent-pending slicing design. We invented a reusable hinge blade assembly. When slicing hotdog buns, why replace a stem, hub, and blade after normal wear? Now you can replace the blade and save your money.
Q: What drew your company to join BEMA? What resources have you found most valuable?
A: My desire to learn and connect with others drew me to BEMA. And I wanted a resource to help my team learn about the baking industry.
Q: What do you love most about the baking industry?
A: I love the quality of product that the US bakery industry produces – I’m proud of it’s safety, quality, and taste. Kind and creative customers make my job interesting every day.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: Away from work I cook, play tennis, and walk an adorable Goldendoodle puppy named Beans.
