Ron is the Global Sales Manager handling the West Coast US, South America and Select Key Accounts.

Kelly Allen, Membership Manager for BEMA had an opportunity to ask Mr. Howard a few questions about himself and the organization.

Q: What is your company most known for?

A: Peerless Mixers, Dough Handling and Peter sandwiching equipment

Q: Would you like to share something new or innovative that your company has done recently?

A: At Peerless we are always improving our design making it more robust, more sanitary all while lower maintenance time and cost. We have lead the way in sanitary design with our KleanVue mixers and showcased our new sanitary slide gate at IBIE.

Q: What do you love most about the baking industry?

A: Two things – The variety of products and the bakers. I can be in a bread plant, then visit a cracker facility all followed up by a cookie manufacturer. Each may use similar equipment making totally different product with different processes, all of which is based on flour and water. Talking with the baker, especially those who have been around a while, you learn so much about the craft and the challenges faced when scaling up manufacture. I find it fascinating.

Q: What drew your company to join BEMA? What resources have you found most valuable?

A: BEMA has been around since 1918 and Peerless is one of a handful of members that was there at the beginning. I can’t say what drew Peerless to BEMA but I can say that I find the connections with other members invaluable. No other organization brings together such a vast variety of equipment manufactures and industry leaders to discuss common issue and work toward competitive solutions.

Q: Please share any personal interests or volunteer activities that you enjoy.

A: Travel and visiting other places which is a good thing given my position. I am a long-distance cyclist having ridden from Seattle out of the state to Portland twice and out of the country to Vancouver, BC once. I enjoy the outdoors activities like camping, hiking and the occasional round of golf. I am also a Certified USAV, WOA and PAVO Volleyball Referee judging matches mostly within the state of Washington as well as selective regional and national events.

Q:Anything else you would like BEMA members to know?

A: I like to tell everyone to use me as a resource. This is the third bakery equipment manufacturer I have worked for having been with Belshaw/Adamatic and Gemini/KB Systems prior to my work here at Peerless. I have seen the inside of bakeries both big and small and have learned from each what works and how to scale up. I am happy to help where I can or point you toward someone or some company with the expertise you need.
